Des Moines, Iowa

The EFCO HAND-E-FORM® system was used for a project in downtown Des Moines, Iowa. The Principal River Walk and Ice Skating Park project was a concept developed to bring more people to the downtown area for entertainment and recreation. The project consisted of a new floodwall to separate the new ice skating rink and riverwalk from the Des Moines River. The wall is 100 lineal meters (325′-0″) with various steps in the footings, as well as an existing gate well structure intersecting the wall. Eighty lineal feet of the wall was 4,3 m (14′-0″) tall and this portion was handset with EFCO’s HAND-E-FORM system. The remainder of the floodwall is 2,7 m (9′-0″) tall. The reasons the contractor used EFCO were to acquire a smooth concrete finish, ease of assembly, and ease in stepping the forms.
